Synopsis
Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on—at least for everyone else around her.
A story of a quietly powerful triumph, about finding your footing again after the ground has been pulled out from under you. An unapologetically honest portrait of how someone learns to live with something they can never truly overcome. The film approaches difficult situations with humor.
This is thanks to writer, director, and lead actress Eva Viktor—making a promising triple debut that signals the arrival of a new voice as sharp as it is deeply tender—who challenges the usual way we tell stories about traumatic events. Produced by Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak (Moonlight, Aftersun), and winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, Viktor’s debut marks the arrival of a bold and unforgettable new voice.
As the smart, sensitive, and witty Agnes—a young professor in a picturesque, cloudy town in England, where she was once also a graduate student—Viktor reveals a side of human life that often goes unnoticed: the brave, quiet act of healing. With her friends slipping away into distant lives, Agnes chooses to stay on the campus where she once topped her class—and finds herself hitting rock bottom after a life-changing event.
Avoiding the formula of bleak procedures, Sorry, Baby is built on the foundation of a vibrant dramedy that journeys through the absurdities, joys, confusions, and possibilities of a young woman just starting out—without turning away from the trauma that shapes her.
